Fast Feet and Spirit Run Information

Fast Feet was founded five years ago with two equally important goals; promoting fitness through running and teaching children that with hard work and perserverance, they can conquer a task that initially seems impossible such as running a "kids marathon" (25.2 miles in training plus a 1 mile race) or significantly improving their time for a set distance.

Information regarding Fast Feet and Spirit Run will be published in Monday Packets as it becomes available; but this page will have up to date information, announcements and downloadable copies of all flyers, information and permission slips.

Check back often to keep completely up to date on Eastbluff's Fast Feet program.

Types of Fast Feet Training

There are two levels of Fast Feet Training – those wishing to train for the 5k and those training for a mile or less. Fast Feet 5k training takes place from November through April; all other training is from January through April. Kindergartners and first graders train Mondays and Fridays; second through sixth graders, Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays. All practices begin twenty minutes before school ends (i.e., during “Walk To Washington”) and end approximately 20 minutes after school ends.

Fast Feet's 2010 Events

This year, Fast Feet members will train for three events and are required to participate in at least two:

(1)   the Spirit Run on March 21, 2010 at Fashion Island (students run a ¼, ½, or 1-mile race or the 5k)

(2)   the Elementary School Track and Field Meet of Champions on April 16, 2010 at the Corona del Mar High School track (students choose three of several track and field events)

(3)   the OC Kids’ Marathon on May 1, 2010 at the OC Fair and Events Center (children run 25.2 or more miles in training culminating in a 1-mile race for a total of 26.2, a full marathon).

Fast Feet's Year End Award Ceremony

Fast Feet members who complete two Fast Feet events will be honored at a ceremony. Better yet, those who complete three will be “crowned” with a Fast Feet triple-crown award. We are thrilled that Steve Scott, Olympian and World Record Holder for the most sub-4 minute miles, will do the honors! Many of you may know Mr. Scott from Spirit Run, as he leads each kids’ mile race. You may also remember him from Eastbluff’s last OC Marathon Medal Ceremony during the 2007/2008 school year.
